[s-x86] Re: Cluster for Solaris x86
Plans are certainly in place, and the necessary hooks etc are going into Solaris
8 and future releases, but productisation and delivery are non-trivial issues.
High performance single system image clustering requires hardware partners in
the Intel space shiping servers with high performance interconnect, shared
storage etc.
If you look at the way Sun Computer Systems currently ships clustering, it is
not done as a shrink wrapped binary that you just install on a bunch of servers
- it is a carefully crafted and tested product/services bundle.
Depending on your definition of clustering you might want to look at some third
party products which run on Solaris (Sparc/Intel) e.g. Legato Fulltime cluster,
RSF from RSi in the UK, Jeeva from Wipro (Indian Co), etc. (Sorry, SunCLuster is
absent on Solaris Intel).
Finally, I urge interested parties to go make some noise in the "clustering"
group at forum.sun.com :-)
