Hello fellow Solaris x86'ers : I forward this email to all of you who might be very interested in Onstream developement. They make a tape drive in which 70 GB of storage on a single tape. Also the key advantage with this unit is the following: ADR Technology: goto http://www.onstream.com/adr/index.html to learn more about it. Basically what it is that ADR take an embed a servo track on the tape. So when you have a bad spot on the tape the drive will not need to rewind in order to determine this. If the servo is missing it acknowledge this and keeps on going. Thus making this a faster since traditional tape drives all has to rewind and go forward again just to determine if the data is ok. In terms of backup that would speed a lot of things up. Traditional tapes system uses XDR format which is slow but get the job done. I'll let you know more when they come out with one. There were ETA as to when this will be completed. I think it will make a nice jukebox configuration if they would do one.
