Our drivers only support 8-bit and 24-bit modes.

If we support 24-bit modes for your card it should show in the list of 
available resolutions at 16Meg colors.  Are you sure you scrolled through
the entire list of available resolutions when doing your configuration?

Try running kdmconfig again.
