Now Charles come on. 'man ttsession' Tooltalk is a message server
to allow independent X apps to communicate. It's use for both
Openwindows and CDE in such appications like the calendar manager,
file manager etc. Now if you go over to
http://docs.sun.com and type in the key word 'tooltalk' I'm sure
you will get enough explaintion on what it is.
ttsession and it's rpc's can sometimes be problematic on some installations
because it uses local databases to keep trace of the sessions. In
some cases your home directory maybe mounted at the company server
and you go home dial in and some specific tooltalk session my get
confused and restart the ttsession daemon (that is if this a type
of problem your having). Typically you should only have on ttsession
going. You can also kill it and start it in the tracing mode
and watch what types of errors when you do have problems.
A note Solaris 8 users when you get your FCS (Final Customer Ship)
cut of the CD's. Solaris 8 has TTauthority turned on in the
ttsession and if your using authentication you and you are
working on a remote machine one that you usally is not your
main desktop you might have to use the ttsession -a an -c options
for certain commands i.e. dtmail. More security.
