[s-x86] file system snapshots

I tried this on Solaris-x86 but got no responses.

Have solaris-on-intel readers decided not to support
the new mailing list?

#####

Anyone have experience with fssnap, introduced with Sol8?

I try it, with a command line like:

	# fssnap -o backing-store=/w/varsnap /var
	/dev/fssnap/0

And as shown, it reports the the device associated with
the snapshot. But it does not exist!! I've tried creating
a snapshot with the directories /dev/fssnap and /dev/rfssnap
pre-existing and not existing. Same result, no device "0".

/w/varsnap is created as a huge sparse file. Only 24 blocks.

"fssnap -i /var" gives a reasonable and expected report,
including listing the non-existing block and raw devices.

But of course, /dev/fssnap/0 can not be mounted as it does
not exist.

"fssnap -d /var" says it deletes the snapshot.

I've also tried making changes on /var while the snapshot
was in effect to "stimulate" the creation of the device.
But no device.

Thoughts?
